When Joseph Campbell gave us the phrase, “follow your bliss,” he wasn’t alluding to the often reappropriated interpretation, akin to chasing pleasure and avoiding pain. A closer translation of his intent would be something closer to “follow your passion,” which is a word that implies suffering just as much as it does bliss.
