These newsletters are intended to mirror the current energies of the moment, so that we can witness ourselves within a larger story that is unfolding both within us and around us. The placements and transits of the stars and planets are infused within the writing, cuing us in to our contextual landscape.
what it takes:
Even if you read the last newsletter about resolutions being cancelled, there is still the part of you that desires to uplevel or evolve in some way. How do I know that? Because that desire to take up more space and create what has never yet been created is the nature of the life force that animates all of creation (you included). This time of year, we just call it “new year, new you.”
Synchronistically, this full moon lights up the night sky just a few days beyond the annual “Quitter’s Day,” which is the name for the 2nd Friday in January where most people tend to give up on their resolutions. Everything that we require for coming into greater alignment with our desires is all around us, as the universe (“u” inverse) is always providing a clear and direct mirror.
So what does it take to create something you’ve never created before? The answer, I believe, is mirrored in the sky.
The full moon in Cancer ♋️ is lit up by the sun in it’s opposing sign: Capricorn ♑️. Each has what the other needs. As we endeavor towards our own mountain peaks (Capricorn), we have to be willing to allow space to express of all the emotions that bubble up as we push our limits, all the while nurturing and loving (Cancer) even the icky ones.
A full moon is the culmination of the seeds that were planted 6 months earlier at the time of the new moon in the same sign. So the answer to the question that was the title of the newsletter for the new moon in Cancer on July 5th - What’s love got to do (got to do) with it? - is for you to answer for yourself on your journey up the mountain.

“get in the sea about it:”
The Apple TV series “Shrinking,” created by the writers of “Ted Lasso,” gives us another inspiring example of how we could live: embracing the full range of human emotions combined with a heaping dose of laughter, all held within the container of a supportive community. As Harrison Ford’s character says in the episode titled “Get in the Sea,” “Fucked up people are good at helping fucked up people.”
As a couple of the characters in this episode are navigating a particular problem, Derek (Damon Wayans Jr.) suggests getting in the sea about it - his favorite way of solving problems. Until they all literally get into the ocean, the assumption was that getting in the sea is a metaphor. But Derek insists that the ocean is a magical place that helps you see things clearly.
Through the lens of the metaphor, water is the space in which emotions flow freely, with nothing held back, held onto, or dammed up. Swells emerge, coalesce into waves, and then return to their source. This too, is how we return to the source.
Or we can take this prescription literally, as they do in “Shrinking.” Because the cure for anything, as Isak Dinesen proclaims, is saltwater: sweat, tears, or the sea.
poem of the lunar cycle: “You, Darkness” by Rainer Maria Rilke
You, darkness, that I come from
I love you more than all the fires
that fence in the world,
for the fire makes a circle of light for everyone
and then no one outside learns of you.
But the darkness pulls in everything-
shapes and fires, animals and myself,
how easily it gathers them! -
powers and people-
and it is possible a great presence is moving near me.
I have faith in nights.
why triggers are great:
With Mars (the planet of drive, initiative, action, and heat) moving retrograde (backwards) through Cancer at the time of this full moon, there’s the potential for this energy signature to be expressed as emotional triggers. Since that sentence may not initially present itself as a reason to jump for joy, and because the perception that things happen to you places you in the role of victim, let’s explore why triggers are actually great.
When we’re moving in the direction of our dreams, we’re stepping into the unknown, which is a space where triggers tend to arise. But the thing is, triggers are going to arise even if we’re just trying to mind our own business, we so we might as well do it in the context of being the Creator.
I like to refer to the unknown as the darkness because we can’t necessarily see what’s ahead of us. The metaphor of the darkness works so well because there are no shadows in the dark. So it becomes like a field day for all of your shadow creatures (inner saboteurs, escape artists, victims, and boogeymen) because there’s nowhere to hide.
In other words, the darkness is the light where we can see everything that was once hidden. Triggers are great because they can prompt you to shine the light of awareness on all of the fuzzy little gremlins that still need to be loved, which is the catalyst for your next level. You can love them because you can see them, no longer identifying as them. They’re all just waves in the ocean that is you.
